Myth Busting In Pregnancy
Hello lovely,
Are you sick of the shite that gets said to you during pregnancy 'oh you cant do this' or 'you shouldn't be doing that'. Its a pain in the hole so lets bust some of these myths and give you back control over what YOU want to do.
Myth: You can’t exercise while pregnant.
Fact: Moderate exercise is actually encouraged during pregnancy! Activities like walking, swimming, and prenatal yoga can help maintain a healthy pregnancy, boost energy, and prepare your body for labor. Strength/weight training is also brilliant. May of the exercise will be focusing on pelvic and core strength which is always a plus for labour. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise routine.
Myth: You can’t have caffeine at all.
Fact: While it’s true that high amounts of caffeine should be avoided, small amounts (around 200 mg per day, about one 12-ounce cup of coffee) are generally considered safe. Just be mindful of your overall caffeine intake from various sources. Herbal teas or cacao can be a nice substitute. If using ceremonial cacao be mindful of dosages.
Myth: You can’t travel by airplane.
Fact: Air travel is usually safe during most of pregnancy, especially in the second trimester. However, it’s best to avoid flying after 36 weeks, and some airlines may have restrictions for later stages of pregnancy. Always check with your healthcare provider before traveling.
Myth: You have to avoid all seafood.
Fact: Not all seafood is off-limits! Low-mercury fish like salmon, shrimp, and sardines are safe and even beneficial because they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for your baby’s brain development. Just avoid high-mercury fish like swordfish or king mackerel because Im sure your diet has lots of Swordfish in it right now!!
Myth: You shouldn’t dye your hair during pregnancy.
Fact: It’s generally safe to dye your hair after the first trimester. The chemicals in modern hair dyes are less harsh, and your skin absorbs very little of them. If you’re still concerned, opt for highlights or use natural dyes like henna. If you really feel strongly about this you can always opt for root sprays, god bless the inventor of this bad boy!!!
Pregnancy is hard enough, if there are things that make you feel happy and more like yourself then by all means do them. Obviously things like smoking and excessive alcohol intake are not condoned in my book but the more basic everyday, well surely there’s wiggle room. If in doubt speak to your GP, Midwife, Doula, Personal Trainer, Nutritional advisor, Reiki Master I dont mind!! Seek advice from those who are qualified to guide you and ALWAYS trust your intuition to know what’s best for you.
